This week there are several important dates to take note of:

• TOMORROW (1/25) is the PTA meeting at 7:45am. We’ll be electing the nomination committee.  Housekeeping note: this one will be held in the Cafe (to the right of the office).
• TOMORROW & FRIDAY (1/25 & 1/26) help decorate the library for Book Fair. It’s just around the corner and we need all the help we can get! Bring a friend and have even more fun! We also need cashiers for the fair and during family night. SIGN UP HERE to volunteer. Don’t forget that you can also purchase a Gift Card at literati.com for your child.  The volunteers running the Book Fair will have access to all the Gift Cards codes. 
• FRIDAY (1/26) is Book Character Dress Up Day. The Hill SEL-ebration Leadership Team invites you to dress up as your FAVORITE BOOK CHARACTER. Dressing up is optional.  No scary characters or masks please. 

Live from AISD our Dillo on the scene brings you breaking news. Hill and AISD is operating on a two-hour delay again tomorrow (1/17). Assembly will begin tomorrow at 9:30 am. School begins at 9:40 am. No changes for dismissal. Thank you!

It’s that time of year again! Come out and celebrate our Hill community at Great Hills Country Club on Friday, April 5^th at 6:30 pm. This year’s Hoopla will be a “Foodie Fest” that highlights delicious cuisines alongside a complimentary drink pairing. No festival is complete without live music, so enjoy your pairings while listening to Austin’s own Ryan Ross band!

Without the Silent Auction, Hill Hoopla would just be a party and not a fundraiser! We need your help making our silent auction appealing and varied. Here are a couple of specific auction items our team is looking for!

It’s not too late to donate!  The Hill Caring & Sharing Committee is finishing up our GIFT CARD DRIVE to support Hill families in need this holiday season.  If you would like to donate, you may SIGN UP HERE to donate a gift card(s) from HEB, OLD NAVY and/or TARGET.  You are welcome to sign up for as many slots as your budget allows.

A fourth Special Session has been called. Vouchers are back on the table again, at the last minute, with very little notice. The Select Committee on Educational Opportunity & Enrichment convenes today at 9:00am (Thursday, November 9th) in room E1.030 of the State Capitol to discuss HB 1, a bill that includes the creation of an expansive private school voucher program. This is a BAIT AND SWITCH bill with dangling carrots, designed to trick citizens. Additionally, it includes a harmful provision that has the potential to increase the numbers of children with disabilities institutionalized in state supported living centers.

Please let your voices be heard, and help save our public schools! Express your opposition to private school vouchers and HB 1 by testifying in person tomorrow morning or commenting electronically tonight. This short turn-around time is not an accident. Most of us are unable to speak at the Capitol tomorrow morning with such short notice, but we can ALL express our opposition online.

If you are able to testify in person tomorrow morning, please come to the Capitol. The two minutes you are given to speak will make a profound impact in protecting our public schools. Learn about testifying HERE. If you are unable to testify in person, please submit your opposition electronically HERE. It is imperative that the Select Committee hears from us.

We will be holding a Veterans Day Assembly on Friday, November 10th at 7:45am to honor and recognize our Hill Community Veterans and Service Members. Speakers this year are: Lee Smith, along with his wife is Jill Stinson, a former Hill teacher and librarian, and Jonesy Jones, who was one of his squadron commanders.  They were both fighter pilots in the Airforce, and later instructors. We are so grateful for their time and service.

There is also still time to submit letters/photos for our Veterans Day Honor Wall. Please submit 1) a picture of your honoree in uniform if possible, with the name written on the back and 2) completed form (check your child’s Wednesday folder).  Please submit copies of pictures, as we cannot guarantee their safe return.  Turn in your pictures/forms to the office or your child’s teacher.  Submissions will then be posted November 1 through November 17.

What is the secret sauce for a dinner everyone will love? Pizza! With literal sauce. And toppings! Because you can dress up a slice in infinite ways it’s always a crowd pleaser. On November 8th be the dinner hero by grabbing some pizza over at Tony C’s on Anderson Ln. You’ll also be showing your Dillo Spirit as 10% of your purchase goes back to the school. Just mention “Hill Elementary”.

It might be Halloween, but there’s nothing scary about these deadlines. This week there are several important dates to take note of:
