With the passage of the AISD bond earlier this month, the district is moving quickly to implement projects throughout the district. Hill is slated for $17.8M worth of improvements in the 2017 Bond. Districtwide safety and security improvements (security cameras, fire alarms, security alarms) will begin first, starting in the summer of 2018. Additionally, there are some targeted projects to improve HVAC and Electrical systems which are currently scheduled to begin design in 2018 and be constructed in the summer of 2019. These amount to $724k of work.
The majority of Hill’s work will be the Phase 1 of a full modernization, shown on page two of the fact sheet here. The current plan has design beginning in 2019, the construction likely starting the summer of 2020. We are a little too far out to know exactly how the construction will be sequenced, but where possible the remodels to spaces in the existing building will take place in the summer, while additions can occur year round.
Other projects within the Anderson Vertical Team are also moving forward. Most significantly is the construction of a new 6th grade center at Murchison and the expansion at Doss. Construction on those projects is expected to begin next Fall.
We are very excited about the future and all the improvements that are planned for Hill. Thank you for supporting our schools!
It’s been a happy week for families throughout Austin, knowing that the community believes their kiddos deserve safer and more modern learning facilities! Thank you to our Hill Community for voting! We will keep you informed with the latest construction updates as they become available.

Please Join Us This Thursday, Nov. 16th at 7:45am in the Hill Library for our PTA meeting and guest speaker-Devorah Heitner, PhD, Founder & Director of Raising Digital Natives
Our kids are growing up in a different world. How do we help them be mindful & responsible citizens in the 21st century? Our speaker will offer a refreshing perspective on kids and media that goes beyond the typical admonishment that limits “screentime”. She offers concrete criteria to evaluate the quality of our children’s media experiences and is a resource for anyone seeking advice on how to help children thrive in a world of digital connectedness.
