The Hill Elementary Science Fair was a great success and twenty of our students will present their posters at the Austin Energy Regional Science Festival. Grayson Gore, Abigail Chu, Zara Halai, Dani Santana, Cash Kaven, Chance Peterson, Tyler Crawford and Gabe Tao were selected from 4th Grade. Nate Watkins, Brendan Kopp, Drew Donahue, Will Foley, Rivers Putnam, Jackson Kercheville, Ben Waisman, Austin Pawlik, Avani Ganne, Kai Kawakami-Lynd, Aldabara Klautau and Aarav Ruia were chosen from 5th grade. Congratulations to our amazing Dillo scientists!
It may not feel like it now but those 100 degree days are coming. Now is the time to get your very own Hill koozie. It keeps your water cold and shows you have amazing school spirit. All proceeds support the 5th grade heritage gift back to the school, graduation party, and any left over money we gift to the PTA!
This year’s heritage gift is a stage the 5th grade would like to have built for the playground to encourage student led activities and an opportunity for outdoor classroom presentations when possible. Additionally, any money that goes to the PTA supplements educational programs and activities for all Hill students, which in turn makes us an amazing school!
Tea Collection (www.teacollection.com) is offering Hill an amazing fundraiser and chance to purchase clothes at 15% off + Free Shipping and Hill will get 15% of the sales!
Here’s how it works:

Melinda Anderson is our PTA Parliamentarian this year. She has three lovely children: Layla (7th grade), River (4th grade), and Juliet (3rd grade). Melinda helps keep PTA meetings on track, makes sure bylaws are checked and followed when needed, and checks all bank statements each month. This is Melinda’s third year on the board. She was the treasurer during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 school years too! She has put in countless hours over MANY years for Hill. We are so grateful for Melinda’s dedication to Hill Elementary.
Do they love acting in plays? Or doing behind the scenes tech? Murchison Middle School Advanced Theatre Production class is now accepting applications for the 2018-19 school year. Murchison’s 6th grade Theatre Production class is a year-long elective in which class time is devoted to preparing and presenting one-act plays, affording students the opportunity to learn the art of acting and design through practical experience. Go to www.murchisonmatadors.org/owens to download the application. Students can also sign up to take Theatre Arts (semester or year long), no application required. In Theatre Arts students study all aspects of theatre, e.g. acting, makeup design, costumes design, puppets. Please feel free to contact theatre teacher Nancy Owens at nancy.owens@austinisd.org for more information.
Hill Families — your opinions are important to us and we encourage your feedback. You will receive a hard copy of the AISD Parent Survey in your Wednesday folders.
Please complete and return the survey to your child’s teacher or the Hill School Office by Friday, February 23, 2018. The Survey is also available online in several languages via www.austinisd.org/parents. Results are posted to the AISD website by the of June.
You may complete one survey per child. If both parents wish to complete the survey, one can be done via hard copy and one can be done online.
