Would you like to mentor a student at Hill? Hill mentors work one-on-one with Hill students — typically once a week during lunch (30 minutes). Mentoring provides children with the caring and consistent presence of an adult friend, which research has shown to be a major protective factor in building resilience among at-risk youth. Mentoring also offers benefits for the mentor, including opportunities for personal growth, a deeper connection to the community, and a profound and caring relationship with a young person. Our adult mentors make an incredible difference in our students’ lives.
Scouting BSA Troop 2 for Girls is hosting a biking skills clinic – for 5th grade girls – on Oct 21, at 10am, at Balcones District Park.

Please save the date and email iwonac@gmail.com so we can add you to our Evite. We’d appreciate an RSVP.
We have a limited number of bikes to loan out, so please reach out if your daughter needs a bike in order to attend the clinic.

Dear Hill Community,
The cooler weather is here! As a reminder, there is no school Monday, October 9th (tomorrow) as our staff participates in professional learning, and we recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Austin ISD. We will see everyone back on campus on Tuesday.
Hill will hold a UIL meeting for parents on Zoom to give information on our UIL programming this year. You can use this link to access the meeting which will take place on Monday, October 16th at 3:30 pm. We will review a general timeline, discuss available events, and give a picture of what our meet day will look like in late January. We will plan to record the meeting as well for those who cannot attend.
We want to invite our Hill Community to the Anderson High School Library on Tuesday, October 17th from 6:00-7:30 pm for Community Mental Health and Safety Conversations presented by Austin ISD. You can see other available Zoom options and spaces available as well for other dates. We hope to see you there.
Hill Elementary will have a School Team this year for the Cap 10K run/walk in April! You can complete Cap10K registration here and join as a school team member of the “Hill Elementary Dillos Team”. We want to bring all of the students, staff, and family members possible! More details to come.

Support our 5th Grade Legacy Fundraiser (Message from our Volunteers): Don’t forget to support the 5th Grade Fundraiser happening NOW! We have 3 weeks to reach our goal and we need your help. Click HERE to make a “No-Hassle” donation to support our fundraising efforts. If we receive 75 donations of $40 or more, we will hit our goal. Also, you can still purchase Hill Dillo sport socks or a school-spirited headband through October 15th. Every donation makes a difference and helps ensure we leave a great legacy gift to Hill and have the funds to plan exciting End of Year festivities for the 5th grade class. We are hoping to have all items ready for pick up the first week of November. Once sales are finalized, we will communicate the distribution schedule. Thank you for your support! Contact 5thgradecommittee@hillelementary.com with any questions.
Check out the Austin ISD Texas Farm Fresh Art Competition your student can participate in to support healthy living. You can reach out to ATX Kids Club if you need an option for childcare during AISD holidays.
Lastly, we recently had a scary incident out front when a student fell from the large rocks they were walking across and gashed their head. We reminded students this week, but please also encourage and model for your students not walking on the rocks out front. While we know many students enjoy this, we would like to keep our kids safe by staying off of them. Thank you for your support!
Principal Drummond
It’s Principal Appreciation week! Hill families, let’s show our three hard-working and beloved principals — Jack Drummond, Nancy Martinez and Ellana Selig — how much we appreciate them the Week of October 9th. Let’s flood their inboxes with artwork and heartfelt messages from our little Dillos. You are also welcome to send yummy lunches, gift cards, or anything else you’d love for them to have!
To see the whole year’s Staff Appreciation schedule click here. We’ll share information in Dillo Details and on our grade level Facebook pages throughout the year for reminders about celebrating all of our special staff members! Reach out with any questions to appreciation@hillelementary.com.
