Calling All Parents to Hill College Days!

While the phrase “college days” may spark many memories, it is an opportunity for our Hill parents to share their career and educational experiences with our Dillos.  And we are looking for parents to volunteer or to nominate someone who may have an interesting story to tell.

The goal behind College Days is to get our Dillos thinking about what they want to do and be when they grow up — and most importantly what type of education, training, and experience is needed to get there.  We will invite College Day guests to speak, one each month, during the morning assembly for no more than five minutes.  However, if guests are unable to appear in-person we can accommodate a virtual pre-recorded interview option.

Each guest can speak to the following four main questions:

  • Tell us a little bit about your job and what’s a typical day for you?
  • What type of formal education do you have and how has it prepared you for your career?
  • What’s most rewarding about your job?
  • What advice would you give any Dillos who are interested in pursuing a career similar to yours?

If you’d like to participate or nominate another parent, please reach out to Austin Holder at eugeneholder@gmail.com. Thank you!

Math Pentathlon Club

Math Pentathlon is a parent-led math games club for learning and playing strategy games that exercise age-appropriate math & logic skills. The games and learning activities are designed for kids of all math abilities in First through Fifth Grades.  Club meetings will be held Wednesdays after school until 4pm, starting in early October and running through late January. After January, students that do not want to participate in inter-school competition (usually in April) drop and the focus of the meetings will move to tournament preparation.

Student capacity for each grade level will be determined by the number of parent volunteers, so signing up sooner will help us plan better. The pre-registration form is here: https://forms.gle/gtrSHXnHojj3Ycqi6 and the deadline for applying is September 29th.

Visit www.hillelementary.com/math-pentathlon for more information.

From Mr. Drummond

We hope you enjoy a restful three day weekend! As a reminder, there is no school tomorrow (Monday) in observance of Labor Day.

We look forward to seeing our 1st-5th Grade parents on campus this Thursday, September 7th at 5:30 pm for our Back to School Night event. Hill administration, Essential Areas, and our wonderful PTA will give a presentation and introduction for our caregivers to begin in our Hill cafeteria. All families are welcome to come and receive this information (including Pre-K and Kinder). At approximately 6:00 pm, 1st-5th grade families will be released to your student’s class (or communicated alternate location) for a presentation with your teacher(s). We will wrap up at 6:45 pm and give everyone a nice night. We do understand some families may wish to visit multiple presentations. Feel free to move in and out as needed.

Our student technology rollout is ongoing but successful so far. Please refer to this guide in working with your student this year on our district expectations for technology at home and at school: AISD Technology Expectations. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure we keep these devices nice and functioning!

If your student is absent this year, Austin ISD requests that we try to use this form (Austin ISD School Absence Note) to send in to our front office electronically or physically. Thanks for being mindful.

Each year, we have accidents and fender benders around our campus due to negligence on the roads. Please ensure you are watching your speed at all times on the streets that surround our campus. Please ensure you are mindful of pedestrians, vehicles, and objects as you park. You should never be on a cell phone or device as you drive. It is against the law! We appreciate everyone being diligent.

If interested in fall soccer, check out this Austin Parks and Recreation Fall Soccer flyer for more information. Enjoy the holiday and see you Tuesday!

5:30-6:00pm.  Cafeteria.  Short presentations from Hill administration, Essential Areas, and PTA.

6:00-6:45pm.  Classrooms.  Presentations from your classroom teacher(s).  Families who need to visit multiple classrooms are invited to move in and out as needed.

Student Wellness Reminders

Hill staff is happy to be back, but we need you and your child’s help staying healthy. There has been an increase in the “stomach bug” and in COVID cases among our students. In addition, children have been coming to the nurse’s office straight from the bus/drop off.

Please be considerate of other students and staff by keeping your child at home when they are ill.  Please follow AISD policy: Child must be free of fever (100.0), diarrhea and vomiting for 24hrs without the use of medications. We appreciate your cooperation with this matter.
