From Mr. Drummond

Dear Hill Community,

We look forward to an excellent week of learning at Hill School! Thank you for your partnership during our fall conferences. We value our caregiver feedback and appreciate your support.

This Wednesday, October 4th is National Walk to School Day. Come join your fellow Dillos as we celebrate. Students and families can meet at 7:10am at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Dash will lead the way as we leave for Hill at 7:25am. If you plan to drive and then walk with us, please do not block the Casner parking lot. Our route: North on Greenslope to Cima Serena. Left (west) on Cima Serena to Tallwood. Right (north) on Tallwood, to the main entrance of the school. Thank you to our Dillo Dads who are going to help make our walk safe!  Meet at Hillcrest Church (3838 Steck Ave, corner of Greenslope and Steck) at 7:10am. Bring your water! Reach out to Paige Teng with any questions at walktoschool@hillelementary.com.

Honor an AISD Teacher: Our teachers and staff are the heart of Austin ISD. Each and every one of us can think back to a teacher or staff member who has made a profound impact, shaping who we are and how we see the world in ways both big and small. The Austin ISD Office of Talent Strategy is committed to sharing these stories and celebrating the wonderful things you all are doing in our district. If you are a current or former student, or the parent/caregiver on behalf of a student, we invite you to honor an AISD teacher or staff member by telling the story of the impact that they have had on you. After you submit, they will receive a copy of their Honor Story in an email as well as the opportunity to have their story published on our website. You can click here to submit your nomination. Let’s show Hill teachers how much we appreciate them!

The Gifted and Talented Referral Window is open and will close this Friday, October 6. Families wanting to submit a GT Referral can do so at: bit.ly/AISDGTStartYou can click here for the Spanish language flyer with the same information. All 2nd grade students will be universally screened over the next couple of weeks during their classes. This will not be a long process. We will reach out to anyone following this that we need to based on the results.

Our FLEX Language program is in full swing and serving all 1st-5th graders in the Anderson Vertical Team. Click here for the fall newsletter for more information.

Families who use our car line: First of all, thank you for choosing this option that helps create a safe arrival at Hill. In talking with Ms. Linda and some families, we wanted to share concerns on cars double queuing and creating two right turn lanes on Cima Serena. Please stay in a single file car line on Cima Serena and then onto Tallwood! We understand efficiency but do not put that above pedestrian safety. Thank you for your understanding. We will continue to look at ways to support there. Ms. Linda and our walkers thank you!

Happy Fall, Hill Community!
