No Place for Hate

Hill Elementary is proud to be a No Place for Hate campus. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) provides curriculum we use to maintain our No Place for Hate status. This year we are talking about identity, or who we are. We have adapted the ADL’s “Identity: What We Can See and Not See” lesson to fit our school needs and for developmental appropriateness. We will read “Red: A Crayon’s Story,” which is about a crayon who is red on the outside, but blue on the inside. Students will then complete an identity iceberg, showing what people can see on the outside, along with all the things we cannot see on the inside but are still important to us. As part of our No Place for Hate activities, our Counselors invite Hill Dillos to create HERITAGE DOLLS to celebrate our diverse heritages and differences. These dolls will then line the halls of our school to highlight our differences. The paper dolls are created and dressed based on traditional clothes worn in your families’ native countries. Please turn in your Heritage doll by November 4th if you would like for it to be displayed!  Please reach out to our counselors, Sarah Kelton or Stephanie Winfrey, with any questions!
