Attention Parents!!

The school day will end at 3:00 pm this year.  This is 3 minutes later than last year.  There will be little if any change to our dismissal routine due to this.

Dismissal Volunteers Needed!

The kindergarten teachers would like help with dismissal for the first two weeks of school (getting kids to the bus line, car line, etc). They need help Monday through Friday, August 20-31. Kindergarten dismisses 10 minutes before the rest of the grades so you will be finished helping before regular dismissal. Please click here http://signup.com/go/GiZBnOD for more info and to sign up. You may sign up for as many days as your schedule allows. Thank you!

Coordinated School Health Volunteer

Last year, Hill Elementary received an exemplary rating for Coordinated School Health (CSH)!! This was a huge achievement but we can always continue to improve the health and wellness opportunities on our campus. The CSH team is looking for a few parent volunteers to help us in these efforts. If interested, please email the CSH Chair, Coach Schafer at jason.schafer@austinisd.org as soon as possible. Our first meeting is on Wednesday, August 22 from 3-4:30 pm. Let’s make this the happiest and healthiest year yet at Hill!

A Letter from Principal Newton

Dear Hill Community,

We hope that you are having a fantastic summer break! I just returned from a family vacation in Port Aransas.  It was Blue’s first trip to the beach and he loved playing in the sand and the ocean! Soon it will be time for us to share more stories of our summer adventures.

For now, we are busy preparing for the 2018-2019 School Year and wanted to share some staffing updates with you.

Second grade teacher, Natalie Perez, has taken a position as a Counselor in Marble Falls ISD.  We appreciate Ms. Perez’s service to the students of Hill School! We have hired Jordan Silverman as our new second grade teacher.  Jordan is a recent graduate from UT Austin, and did her student teaching in 5th grade at Brentwood Elementary School.  We are happy to have Ms. Silverman join our second grade team!

Third grade teacher, Jason Eddleton, has moved to San Antonio where he will be teaching fifth grade.  We appreciate Mr. Eddleton’s service to our students at Hill School and wish him luck in his new position!  We have hired Hannah Westbrook as our new third grade teacher.  Hannah comes to Hill from Kingwood ISD, where she taught 3rd grade.  Ms. Westbrook also was a substitute teacher in some of our classrooms last year.  We are pleased that Hannah is joining our third grade team!

Fourth grade teacher, Katelyn Houchin has taken a position as an Instructional Specialist in Hays ISD.  We appreciate Ms. Houchin’s service to our Hill students! We have hired Lindsay Cole as our new fourth grade teacher.  Lindsay is moving to Austin from Virginia, where she was a fourth grade teacher.  We are thrilled to have Ms. Cole teaching fourth grade at Hill!

This year, we will have three Pre-kindergarten classes.  Hill PPCD teacher, Erin Ganakas, will be moving to teach Pre-kindergarten this school year.  We are excited to have Ms. Ganakas join our Pre-k team. We have hired Hayden Higginbotham as our new PPCD teacher.  Hayden comes to Hill from Zilker Elementary, where she was a special education teacher. We are pleased to welcome Ms. Higginbotham to Hill School!

We will continue to keep you updated on any other staffing changes before the start to the school year!  Enjoy the heat!

Seeking Volunteers

Are you interested in getting more involved?  We have many volunteer opportunities for parents here at Hill and our volunteers are one of the many reasons that Hill is such a wonderful learning environment for our children!  We still need volunteers for a few specific positions for the upcoming school year.
Birthday Posters – This is a position that can be done from home!  Requires 2-5 hours a month – all you need is a PC, we provide the rest.
Reflections – Are you passionate about the arts?  Do you want to do something that is a short term volunteer commitment?  Help run this art contest and see the various talents of our students displayed.
Veteran’s Day Assembly – This is another short term volunteer commitment – where we show our children our appreciation for those who have served our country.
If you are interested in any of these specific positions or just volunteering in general, contact president@hillelementary.com.
