GIFTED AND TALENTED PARENT INFORMATION MEETING

Our school is pleased to announce that nominations for gifted and talented students are being accepted, beginning Monday, September 11 until September 22 for grades 3-5. Nomination forms can be picked up from the front office. A variety of measures are used for screening and testing including assessments for bilingual students.

The Austin Independent School District GT Testing Calendar allows for nominations to be collected for grades K-2 beginning on January 23. Our school will notify parents when the Spring nomination window is open.

New this year, 3rd-5th will be nominated in the Fall and Kindergarten-2nd will be nominated in the Spring.

WHAT ARE SOME CHARACTERISTICS OF A GIFTED STUDENT?
advanced/extensive vocabulary
work advanced beyond the grade level/age
extremely inquisitive, asks many questions, often challenging, provoking and/or demanding
in-depth understanding of complex concepts
persistence is evident in areas of interest
high level of curiosity, energy, enthusiasm and vigor for new ideas
advanced reasoning
feels keenly about own ideas and solutions to problems, and often expresses them regardless of what others may think
likes to examine new possibilities for problems/solutions, rather than fitting within a structure
especially original imagination
initiates projects and often prefers to work alone
