Dear Hill Community,

It is hard to believe this is our final week of April! We have just a few notes and reminders below. We plan to give our community a staffing update next weekend as we begin looking ahead to the 22-23 school year.

We want to begin with celebrations around campus. Congratulations to Maitri Shah, who was named a state semi-finalist for the HEB Excellence in Education Awards! Dillo Cheer for her hard work to achieve this well-deserved recognition. We also want to welcome Jessie Rupert as our newest clerk in the office! Jessie is a current parent who has helped us throughout the year. She is taking over for Hanna Curran, who is now a 1st grade teacher on campus.

Reminder: The AISD Human Sexuality and Responsibility (HSR) curriculum provides information and skill development for students in kindergarten through high school so that they may reach their highest potential for physical, emotional, mental, and social health. The draft lessons contained in this HSR survey are aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Health Education and the National Sexuality Education Standards. The reason families are being asked to provide feedback once again is because the Health TEKS were recently revised and adopted by the State Board Of Education and are expected to be implemented in the school year 2022-2023. An additional mandate for next year is all families must provide written permission for their child to be taught human sexuality topics and topics that include the prevention of child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and human trafficking. Permission letters will be sent to families within 3 weeks prior to instruction by each campus. Students whose parents or legal guardians do not provide permission will be provided alternative instruction and shall not be punished or embarrassed in any manner for nonparticipation. Please take a moment and provide feedback regarding the new and revised HSR lessons by taking the HSR Lesson Survey. You may provide feedback on any or all of the grade level lessons. The HSR Survey will be open from Apr 18 – May 6. Student ID number will be required as part of logging in to ensure we are collecting feedback from our student and family community. Families may also attend a School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) meeting to provide additional feedback. Please see the SHAC website  or the Human Sexuality & Responsibility website for more information. Please click on this link to begin the survey. It was also sent to our parents and guardians this past Monday in a separate email.

A note to our 3rd and 5th grade parents: We have noticed more and more students hanging out outside of the building prior to 7:30 am. Please have your student(s) to go to the cafeteria first thing until they are released to their area. We appreciate you supporting a safe arrival as our limited staff are supervising inside the building.

We’ll have more information next week. Thank you!
