A Letter from the Principal

Dear Hill Community,
We hope your weekend has been restful as we come upon our last 2 weeks of school. We have 8 days left of continuous learning as our staff reflect on an eventful year and look forward to planning for a successful fall.

As we begin wrapping up our academic year, our teachers will be reporting their final progress notes for reading, math, and student wellness. All students will either be given a P (Proficient) or I (Incomplete) based on the past weeks of continuous learning. Again, these are not grades and there are no report cards. This information will be used to support students in the fall and in some cases, over the summer. We anticipate families will receive a letter with this information in June. Our staff will work to let families of students receiving I’s know this so there are no surprises and we can document the support they may need.

Regarding fall, Dr. Cruz recently announced a task force composed of staff and community members to examine different scenarios for how school could look for the 2020-2021 school year. We expect draft scenarios to be ready in June. We will keep our community updated as we learn more during the summer.

I would like to invite all of our interested community members to join us for the final Principal Coffee for this school year on Wednesday, May 20th, at 10:00 am. We will provide updates and answer your questions as always. Here is the Zoom information:

Though we will miss our usual traditions that are beloved during the last weeks of school, we are still excited to celebrate some special groups! On Thursday, May 28th, at 4:00 pm we will hold a special car parade for our 5th grade students to drive by, see their teachers, and get some closure as our Dillos move to middle school. Details have been provided in the Dillo Details by our awesome 5th grade volunteers. Please know we will also see how the fall looks to see if another celebration is possible at Hill post-summer. For our families with graduating high school seniors who attended Hill, we would love to see them during our special Zoom celebration on Tuesday, May 26th, at  9:00 am. There we will announce our 3 scholarship winners. Our high school contacts will be advertising this but reach out if you would like more details. Dillo Cheer for the class of 2020!

We also wanted to update our affected families on summer Dillo Camp refunds due to our unexpected cancellations. Refunds for families who paid by credit card were put in the mail this week if needed vendor forms were completed. Please note the 3% convenience fee on card payments can’t be refunded. For families seeking refunds who paid by check or cash, the district is still working to get those checks out. Our apologies on the delay as normal procedures are not available right now. Please reach out with any questions or concerns to Teresa Carroll or Stephanie Winfrey.

Thanks for your continued support of our school community. Tell your students I’ll see them at Monday assembly!
