Math Pentathlon is an after-school program that practices math skills and logical thinking. Much of it is done through games and play, helping students gain confidence in a friendly, social atmosphere. In the spring, students have the opportunity to use these skills in a competition with students from other schools. Math Pentathlon meets Wednesday afternoons from 2:45PM– 3:30PM. Children work in groups according to grade level.
The Hill community is committed to providing our students with the academic support they need to do their Dillo Best. To supplement the hard work of our school’s faculty, the Math Buddies program pairs volunteers with K-5th grade students identified by teachers who may benefit from weekly one-on-one math tutoring sessions. Teachers get a helping hand with their math instruction, and students gain critical skills and confidence. No advanced math knowledge is required for volunteers but great enthusiasm for helping our Dillos is a must. Volunteer sign ups open in mid-September and the program runs from October through April. Teachers can recommend students on a rolling basis.
Reflections is a national, PTA-sponsored program encouraging students to participate in the creative arts. Students are challenged to create entries that interpret a specific theme. While it is a contest, Hill emphasizes participation, celebrating the creativity of all participants. Students may submit one or more entries in the categories of Visual Arts, Photography, Literature, Musical Composition, Dance Choreography, and Film Productions. Entries are later displayed in the Hill Reflections Gallery.
During the school year, Hill students run four complete marathons – 104.8 miles! The Marathon Kids program is a district-wide initiative that promotes fitness. Each day students run laps around the school track. They record their laps over the course of the school year to document their accomplishment.
The Hill Safety Patrol assists school staff in ensuring that students arrive and leave school safely. They play a key role in keeping arrival and dismissal running smoothly. Safety Patrol is open to 5th graders at Hill. Being part of the program teaches students responsibility and instills pride. To apply, students should submit a report to the Assistant Principal on why they would like to be a member of the Safety Patrol.

4th & 5th Grade Choirs
Fourth and 5th grade students have the option to participate in after-school choirs. 5th graders meet on Tuesdays after school during the fall semester. 4th graders meet on Tuesdays during the spring semester. The students enjoy singing together and performing at school events.
Every month we hold College and Career Day. The goal is to build excitement about continuing education and the professional working world. At morning assembly, parents, teachers, and friends speak about their own college experiences and/or the passions they have for their professions. Let us know if you are interested in sharing your college or professional experience.
